Partnership Furthers Diabetes Education and Awareness

The Alberta Podiatry Association and the Alberta Diabetes Foundation are pleased to announce the formation of a partnership to further educate Albertans, and especially diabetics, about the importance of taking good care of their feet.

“It is especially timely to make this announcement during Foot Health Awareness Month which occurs in May around the world. Using the slogan, One pair of feet to last a lifetime ... take good care of them, we are striving to increase awareness about foot health, an issue that is of particular importance to people with diabetes. In fact, feet often exhibit the first signs of diabetes,” said Dr. Mario Turanovic, President of the Alberta
Podiatry Association.

Harold Kingston, Chair of the Alberta Diabetes Foundation, added: “This is a very good partnership for both organizations. Combining the knowledge that the Alberta Diabetes Foundation has with that of Doctors of Podiatric Medicine, whose area of expertise is the foot and ankle, is a win-win for everyone, most especially diabetics. We look forward to
ongoing initiatives that promote a greater understanding about the important role that foot health plays in managing diabetes.”

Both organizations will be working together to provide greater education and awareness about diabetes and the direct impact that foot care has on this disease.
